Dutching calculator
Fancy two or three runners in the same race? Dutching splits your stake so that any of them winning pays the same. Enter the odds and a total stake.

The formula
stake on a selection = total × (1 ÷ odds) ÷ Σ(1 ÷ odds) and return = total ÷ Σ(1 ÷ odds)
Worked example
£100 dutched on three horses at 4.0, 5.0 and 7.0:
| Selection | Odds | Stake | Return if it wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 4.0 | £42.17 | £168.67 |
| B | 5.0 | £33.73 | £168.67 |
| C | 7.0 | £24.10 | £168.67 |
Any of the three winning returns £168.67, a profit of £68.67. Together they behave like one bet at 1.69. If none of them wins, the £100 is lost.
Rounding stakes to whole pounds is common; the returns then differ slightly between selections, and the calculator shows the range.
Questions
What is dutching?
Backing several selections in the same event with stakes sized so that whichever of them wins, you get the same return.
How do you calculate dutching stakes?
Each stake = total stake × (1 ÷ its odds) ÷ the sum of (1 ÷ odds) for all selections. The return is total stake ÷ that sum.
Does dutching guarantee a profit?
Only if one of your selections wins. If none wins you lose the whole stake. Covering every runner at bookmaker prices loses money, because the prices add up to more than 100%.
What odds do my dutched selections add up to?
Combined odds = 1 ÷ the sum of (1 ÷ odds). Selections at 4.0, 5.0 and 7.0 combine to 1.69.
